Virginia Rose Ericson, 89, of Williamsburg, passed away peacefully August 8, 2012. She was born April 11, 1923 in Austin, WV to Joseph and Vienna (née Scopani) Formichella, Italian immigrants.

Virginia and her siblings, Tony, Gene, Lena and Frank spent their childhood in the coal country of Western Pennsylvania. Virginia enjoyed attending their town's one room schoolhouse where she developed her lifelong love of reading. At home she learned to cook, bake, garden and do needlework, skills which she enjoyed throughout her life.

Virginia enjoyed welcoming new people to her communities of Hamlet Hills in Chagrin Falls, OH, and Chambrel of Williamsburg, VA, where she was an ambassador for newcomers. Virginia's smile would light up a room, and was infectious to all who encountered its warmth. She loved her family and friends, and enjoyed making them her family recipe date and nut bread to share at the holidays and other special occasions.

Always an adventurer, she lived in several states - Ohio, Florida and Arizona – before her move to Williamsburg, VA, in 2010. Virginia loved to travel, and traveled extensively in the US, various destinations in Europe and to the Holy Land.

Virginia is survived by two daughters, Loretta J. Roman and husband Mark of Williamsburg, VA, Jojean Bartos and husband Dale of Westlake Village, CA; grandsons, Benjamin Bartos and Kevin Nishioka of San Francisco, CA; Nathan Bartos and wife Sara of Moorpark, CA; great-granddaughter, Eleanor Rose Bartos; brothers, Tony and Frank (wife Marilyn) and many nieces and nephews, friends and caregivers.

She was preceded in death by husbands, William Kornowski and Henry Ericson; brother, Gene and sister, Lena.

Visitation will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, on Thursday, August 16 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. A memorial service will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home on Friday, August 17 at 11:00 AM.

Donations may be made to Hospice House of Williamsburg, in memory of Virginia Ericson, 4445 Powhatan Parkway, Williamsburg, VA 23188. Online condolences may be offered at www.nelsencares.com.
