Walter Thomas Hart, 85, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012 at VCU Medical Center (formerly MCV) in Richmond.
He was born June 18, 1926 in Balty where he resided most of his life. He was the son of the late Charles Gay and Jessie Lucille Sale Hart.
Mr. Hart retired from the Virginia Department of Forestry. He was a lifetime member of County Line Baptist Church in Chilesburg. He was a member of Ladysmith Volunteer Fire Department where he served as President for 17 years, and a member of Ladysmith Volunteer Rescue Squad. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the Richmond Power Squadron
He is survived by his wife, Wilma Peatross Hart, who he married April 3, 1948. He is also survived by his daughter, Winnie Pitts and her husband, Morris Jr.; his granddaughter, Jocelyn Pitts Lowzik and her husband, Gary, Jr.; his sister, Jessie Gay Johnson of Utah; his brother, Roger and his wife, Barbara of Richmond and a niece and three nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter.
A visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Storke Funeral Home, Bowling Green.
A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, March 4, 2012 at County Line Baptist Church, 3461 Ladysmith Road, Ruther Glen, VA. 22546 with Rev. Dr. Fred Skaggs officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
